The Cornwall College South Florida Alumni Association has appointed President of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Janet Silvera as its first female board member in its 25-year history.
President of the association Phillip Wallace said he is delighted Silvera had accepted the invitation to join the Board.

He added that Silvera has made an outstanding contribution to education, particularly, in western Jamaica. “She is extremely passionate about our mission to preserve and perpetuate Cornwall College as one of the top high schools in the country and has pledged to work tirelessly to help us to accomplish this mission,” Wallace stated in a press release.
The appointment comes four years after Silvera expressed concerns that numerous parents, within St James, were opting to send their sons to pursue secondary education in Kingston. Many, she said at the time, spoke of being disillusioned with the state of affairs at the school, which they felt, was not operating at a high academic standard.
