Security was significantly increased at theatres in the US for the weekend opening of the DC movie Joker.
Moviegoers turned up to theatres to the sight of strong detachment of police officers. Officers were also posted on the inside of various venues.
Los Angeles, New York, Florida, and Atlanta Georgia were some of the places where police officers were posted. The New York police also posted undercover officers inside theatres.
The various police departments across the US said there were “no credible threats”.
The Los Angeles Police Department called on residents to be cautious and alert as the R-rated supervillain movie hits screens.
Spokesman Josh Rubenstein said in a statement: “The Los Angeles Police Department is aware of public concerns and the historical significance associated with the premiere of the Joker. While there are no credible threats in the Los Angeles area, the department will maintain high visibility around movie theatres… .”
