Former Member of Parliament Peter Bunting was sworn in as Jamaica’s eighth Opposition Senator earlier today.
Bunting, who was a leadership aspirant for the People’s National Party (PNP), will enter the Senate as the Leader of Opposition Business.
Bunting’s swearing in was delayed after a row between the PNP and Norman Horne, who was previously appointed by the then party President, Peter Phillips.
Horne did not take up the Senate appointment due to being a dual citizen, which bars non-Commonwealth citizen from legislative appointments.
Bunting, a former Cabinet minister, was appointed by Opposition Leader Mark Golding.
