Piers Morgan will leave Good Morning Britain less than a day after his public criticisms of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Morgan’s departure was announced by ITV today, just hours after the he was skewered by a co-anchor for his harsh critique of the former royal couple.

“And I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one and she cut you off.”

The British station stated, “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

Morgan has been an outspoken detractor of Harry and Meghan, especially since their departure from royal duties. However, in a particularly visceral attack yesterday, the morning show host questioned whether the Duchess of Sussex was actually suicidal, comments he’s tried to walk back.

This morning, co-anchor Alex Beresford had heard enough.

Beresford said, “I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this programme.”

“And I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one and she cut you off,” he continued before asking, “Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”

Morgan walked off set, saying “Okay, I’m done with this, sorry, no, sorry… see you later, sorry, can’t do this.”

He later returned after a commercial break.
