Member of Parliament (MP) for West Portland Daryl Vaz and his East Portland counterpart Ann-Marie Vaz have handed over an additional three buses to the North East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) for the purpose of transporting health workers.
The vehicles—which are being made available on loan from the private sector— are to serve the parish of St Mary for the duration of the current COVID-19 health crisis.
In response to an appeal made by both MPs, Budget Rent-A-Car provided two of the vehicles while Avis Rent-A-Car Limited supplied the other. This brings to five the number of buses presented by the Portland MPs to the NERHA.
The MPs reiterated that all stakeholders should do what they can to assist the nation’s healthcare workers during this challenging time. The West and East Portland MPs also lauded their neighbouring MP in South East St Mary, Dr Norman Dunn, for supporting the initiative and his efforts to sensitize citizens about COVID-19 and how they can protect themselves.
Last Friday (March 20), the Portland MPs made available to the NERHA two buses from the private sector to assist in transporting healthcare workers in Portland.
