The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) won 18 seats in the General Election on Friday and will remain in office for the fifth consecutive term.
The DLP increased its power in the Dominican General Assembly by winning three additional seats with the Lennox Linton-led United Workers Party only winning three of the 21 seats.
The victory was Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s fourth consecutive term in office after the DLP won the majority of the 75,000 registered ballots. Skerrit’s wife, Melissa, also won her seat.
There was violence in the streets of Dominica leading up to the general election, and Skerrit called for peace, reconciliation and healing after the victory.
