Defending champions Kingston College (KC) progressed to the quarter-finals round of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football competition on Saturday when they defeated Vauxhall 3-0 at Winchester Park.
The ‘Purples’ had a 6-1 aggregate win over the two legs of their second round clash, as they won the first leg 3-1 on Wednesday.
Also winning late on Saturday to progress further in the competition were St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), who defeated Eltham High 2-1 at Ashenheim Stadium to advance 4-3 on aggregate after the first leg ended 2-2.
Earlier on Saturday, Camperdown, St George’s College, Wolmer’s and Excelsior also moved into the next phase of the tournament with victories over Holy Trinity, Mona, St Catherine High and Jonathan Grant respectively.
Apart from the quarter-finals, all the winners also progressed to the Champions Cup, where its fixtures will be completed by the top eight teams in the rural area daCosta Cup.
Meanwhile, at Stadium East, Jamaica College (JC) and Charlie Smith won their encounters against Hydel and St Jago respectively. Both JC and Charlie won 2-0.
The matches should have also been second-leg encounters, but on Thursday, what would have been the first leg, were affected by rain.
Only 13 minutes were played in the first encounter between Charlie Smith and St Jago before the showers came down and the resulting waterlogged field prevented the start of the second match between JC and Hydel.
At Stadium East on Saturday, JC won through goals by Phillon Lawrence in the 29th minute and substitute Rajae Lawrence, who scored a scorcher from distance two minutes into second half added time.
Charlie Smith got their goals from Damar Brown in the 18th minute and Clive Beckford in the 47th.
