RSPL leaders Waterhouse fight back to draw with champs Portmore

Portmore and Waterhouse played to a 1-1 draw in the Red Stripe Premier League at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Sunday (Nov 10).

Portmore dominated the early action, which eventually bore fruit in the 19th minute when Shai Smith converted a rebound from a blocked shot from Waterhouse’s goalkeeper.

In the rough but entertaining match, Waterhouse started the second stanza positively and were rewarded in the 75th minute through a clinical strike from Colorado Murray.

Portmore are on 12 points and moved one spot up the points standing. They replaced Dunbeholden, who are on 11 points, in eight. Waterhouse remained at the top with 24 points.

Dunbeholden were defeated 1-0 by Mount Pleasant Football Academy at Royal Lakes with the single strike coming from Cardel Benbow in the 15th minute. The win enabled Mount Pleasant to leap Humble Lion into third in the standing on 19 points.

Humble Lion, on 18 points, lost ground after drawing 1-1 with UWI at Mona Effortville Community Centre. UWI are on eight points and are second to last in the points standing. Molynes United remained second in the standing after they battled to a 1-1 draw with Tivoli Gardens. Sergino Frankson scored a 26th minute penalty for Molynes to take the lead, with veteran Newton Sterling earning a point for Tivoli when he netted in the 25th.

Molynes are on 20 points with Tivoli remaining third from the bottom on nine points. In the day’s other match, last-placed Vere United and sixth-placed Cavalier battled to a goalless draw at Wembley Centre of Excellence. Vere are on eight points and Cavalier on 14.
