St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) advanced to the semifinals of the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup schoolboy football competition on Wednesday (Nov 6) when they defeated St George’s College 3-1 at Stadium East.
Warner Brown led a revival for STATHS, with two goals after they fell behind on the stroke of halftime, through a strike from the top of the penalty area by Jaheim Brown, which put St George’s in the lead.
Brown started the comeback for STATHS when he fired powerfully past Orville Smikle in goal for St George’s College in the 51st minute, before Shemar Daley with another well-taken strike in the 55th, gave them the lead. Brown sealed the victory for STATHS in the 63rd minute.
STATHS have six points to lead Group H of the quarterfinals. With Jamaica College (JC) on two points and both St George’s and Excelsior on one, STATHS have already won the group, with one round of matches to play.
Two teams will qualify from the group for the semifinals and the result leaves JC, St George’s and Excelsior to fight for the other spot. STATHS will play JC and St George’s tackle Excelsior in the group’s final matches of the quarterfinals.
