Jamaican Raheem Sterling has been suspended for England’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro at Wembley on Thursday by coach Gareth Southgate.
Sterling was docked from the team after being involved in a fight with his English teammate Joe Gomez on Monday in the team’s canteen.
It is understood that Southgate acted after hearing what took place between the two players.
Gomez appeared at training Tuesday morning with a scratch beneath his right eye. Sterling was allowed to train with the team also and is expected to be a part of the England team that will face Kosovo on Sunday.
Reports are the confrontation was a result of jibes from Sunday’s English Premier League match, in which Gomez’s Liverpool defeated Sterling’s Manchester City 3-1. It eventually got physical.
