Three-year sentence for Guyanese man caught having sex with woman who died from COVID-19

A 50-year-old Guyanese man has been sentenced to three years in prison after he was caught having sex with a woman who died from COVID-19.

The man, Leroy Chacon of Trainline Port Kaituma, North West District, pleaded guilty in the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after he was charged with trespassing with the intent to commit a sexual offence.

It is understood that, on Saturday, Chacon visited the morgue at which the body of the 56-year-old woman was being stored.

He was caught performing an indecent act on the body of the woman who had tested positive for coronavirus.

The man was then placed in quarantine under police guard.
