The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has shared an image of the vehicle that mowed down a police officer in New Kingston on Thursday morning.

The image, captured by traffic cameras managed by the Jamaica Eye project, shows a black Toyota Wish motorcar with the licence plate PJ6379 heading east along Trafalgar Road and comes as the police constable continues treatment at the Kingston Public Hospital for a crushed leg.

Members of the Police High Command are urging the driver of the vehicle to turn themselves in as repeated attempts to intercept the motorcar were unsuccessful.

The constable, who was conducting traffic management duties at the intersection of Trafalgar Road and Worthington Avenue this morning, signalled the driver to stop after committing a traffic infraction.

The taxi operator reportedly slowed down but then accelerated the vehicle into the path of the officer, running him over; making a daring escape.

The injured constable is in a stable condition, the JCF reported.
