The United States has topped two million confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
The country has more than twice as many cases of the virus as the next nation on the list, Brazil, which has recorded 772 thousand cases.
The US also has the unenviable distinction of having the most deaths related to the virus, accounting for 112,925 of the global tally of 417,377 based on data by the John Hopkins University tracker.
Most of the country’s deaths were recorded in New York, where just under 31,000 people died from the virus. The US has conducted some 21.4 million coronavirus tests.
The US has seen localised surges in virus cases, adding to concerns that there may be a second wave of cases as several states loosen restrictions.
Florida has reported 8,553 cases of the virus this week, the most in any seven day period. The increase follows the state’s re-opening which began a month ago.
Globally, COVID-19 cases have surpassed 7.4 million with deaths totalling 417 thousand.
