Waterhouse and Portmore to battle in big RSPL clash

Leaders Waterhouse will seek to further distance themselves at the top of the Red Stripe Premier League points standing when they battle defending champions Portmore United at the Waterhouse Stadium on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Waterhouse’s Stephen Williams makes a move at goal before his side eventually scored against CS Herediano of Costa Rica in the Scotiabank CONCACAF League in August.

Waterhouse, on 30 points, have a commanding eight-point lead over Mount Pleasant Football Academy early into the second round of the preliminary stage of the tournament.

They have chalked up an excellent record of nine wins, three draws and a loss in their 13 matches, being king on both their away turf and playing away, as they lead the league in both departments.

Portmore, on the other hand, are sixth in the points standing on 18 points, trying to recover from a disastrous start to the season, when they lost their first three matches.

Waterhouse’s success has been propelled by the goal scoring exploits of Colorado Murray and Kenroy Howell. Murray leads the competition with seven goals, while Howell is tied in second with Dean-Andre Thomas of Dunbeholden, with six.

Stephen Williams has also scored five goals and captain Keith Simpson, four. All are expected to figure prominently in this battle with both teams facing each other in the final of the competition over the last two years.

For Portmore, they will rest their hopes on national striker Cory Burke, who has scored five times, as well as Rondee Smith and Shai Smith.
