The Jamaican government has declared a Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) for the troubled community of Norwood in St James.
The announcement was made on Sunday (June 20) by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
The community has seen a upsurge in violence, reporting fifteen murders in the community since the start of 2021.
The proliferation of gang activity in the area was also a big factor behind the government’s decision to implement the measure.
A curfew has also been imposed on the area starting on on Sunday and will run through until Wednesday.
This ZOSO is the second such measure implemented in the parish, and fifth overall in the country, and follows on the other in the community of Mount Salem that was imposed on 2017.
